2013 HHS Green Champion Awards
National Institutes of Health
Building 45, Natcher Auditorium
June 3, 2014
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Green Champion Awards were established by the Department in response to Executive Order 13514 issued by President Obama in October 2009 challenging federal agencies to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy & water consumption, & pollution.
Sustainability is directly linked to the health of humans, the environment, and economic systems that support and promote our well-being. This triple bottom line - human health, environmental health and economic health - is integral to our mission and the sustainability mandate of Executive Order 13514. The enthusiasm for sustainability is remarkable. All we need to do is establish goals and channel the enthusiasm and the results follow - in the form of more sustainable labs, offices, buildings and processes. With your support, we can once again ensure that these passionate supporters of sustainability are appropriately recognized. The 2013 HHS Green Champions Awards recognize efforts in the following ten categories:
- Good Neighbor
- Change Agents
- Corporate Responsibility (Scope 3 Greenhouse Gas Reduction)
- Electronic Stewardship and Data Centers
- Environmental Stewardship
- Energy/Fleet Management
- Green Hero Video Outreach
- Sustainable Acquisitions
- Sustainable Design and Facilities, and Regional Planning
- Water Use Efficiency and Management
NEW THIS YEAR!!! An overall individual, small group, and large group/organization winner will be selected for special recognition. Winners will be included in HHS marketing campaigns to promote climate resilience and sustainability efforts.
