NIH Clinical Center
The NIH Clinical Center (CC) is committed to providing the optimal healing environment for its patients and its community. Part of that commitment involves supporting a healthy environment through the hospital greening initiatives spearheaded by the CC Green Team.
These initiatives enhance environmental safety and health for our patients and their families. They also contribute to the CC’s mission to support public health through future environmental sustainability.
The CC Green Team is committed to environmental stewardship. We aim to:
- Reduce Water Waste
- Increase Recycling
- Conserve the use of copy/printer paper
- Decrease the amount of electricity used by the Clinical Center
2020 Updates & Activities:
Earth Day 2020 (April 22)
Theme: "Climate Action." You can learn more by clicking here for the EarthDay.Org website.
2020 also marks the 50th anniversary of the Earth Day celebration & actions!
**Covid-19 Update & Impact on Earth Day Celebrations at the CC**
Most Earth Day activities have traditionally involved in-person collaborations, whether it's tree-plantings, trash cleanup, stream restoration, native gardens, & myriads of other creative ideas at the CC & across NIH, coinciding with "Bring Your Child to Work Day." With social distancing requirements, telework, & rules against large gathers, Earth Day 2020 will adapt & staff are being asked to be creative & perform an activity you would like to contribute to benefit the Earth & share it on the NIH Earth Day Pledge Tree! You may also share your Earth Day practices by submitting them (and pictures!) to firstname.lastname@example.org
Plant a tree (select a native species to the mid-Atlantic region)
Plant a pollinator garden (consisting of flowers native to the mid-Atlantic region)
Reduce vehicle usage
Build a bird feeder (see Newsletter link below for some crafty ideas!)
When possible, involve neighbors, children, friends, & others to promote earth-friendly practices!
Checkout the "50 Years of Earth Day" Newsletter for more information.
