Air Emissions Program - NIH Animal Center (NIHAC)


​​NIHAC is located in Dickerson, Maryland, on a rural site of over 500 acres, 4.5 miles from Poolesville, Maryland. It supports behavioral research and animal holding programs.​

​The boilers and generators at NIHAC use compressed natural gas and No.2 fuel which produce air emissions.


Applicable Federal Air Pollution Control Requirements (include, but not limited to, the following):

  • ​New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) promulgated under 40 CFR 60, Subparts A and Dc for Small Industrial-Commercial-Institutional Steam Generating Units
  • National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) promulgated under 40 CFR 63, Subparts A and JJJJJJ for Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional Boilers Area Sources
  • National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) promulgated under 40 CFR 63, Subpart A and Subpart ZZZZ – National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Stationary Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines
