Description: Bee populations have seen dramatic declines in the last decade, linked to pervasive pesticide use, parasites, loss of foraging habitat and poor nutrition. Action is needed now more than ever. In this activity, you will learn about our native and non-native bees and their significance in the ecosystem. EarthShare will also be showing individuals how to craft their very own bee hotel to provide safe havens for nesting. These hotels supply solitary bees, or bees that do not live-in hives, with a place to lay their eggs. This is an easy activity for all ages!
Suggested materials for construction of Bee Hotel:
Newspaper
Pencils
Masking Tape
Clean tin cans or plastic containers (coffee cans, peanut butter jars)
Twine
Scissors
Optional leaves, twigs or pine cones for filler
