National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering

​Background

The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) established their Green Team in 2009. The team is responsible for examining activities occurring at NIBIB and is tasked with developing tools to “green” those activities. This includes developing guidance, best management practices and identifying new opportunities to become more sustainable. 

Accomplishments

  • Distributed over 25 desk side recycling bins at the Democracy II site in 2012

  • Launched a green policy

  • Created a recycling guide for Democracy II staff​

  • In collaboration with Montgomery County, conducted a recycling seminar

  • Launched a toner recycling program at the Democracy II site

  • Participated in the 2012 America Recycles Day event and collected three boxes of electronics, sneakers, batteries, cell phones and eyeglasses
